We love W so much here at the University of Wisconsin that we plant a giant W every spring. (Click to enlarge.)

Later in the summer, it will be filled in quite lushly.

The W is impressive in June. I have a cousin that probably would have gone to UW had he seen it in June but he saw it in February, and as I'm sure you've noticed, it doesn't look as nice then.

Heh. Ron beat me to the punch! These must be very trying times for Badgers -- "W" stickers everywhere, and nothing to show for it but unreconstructed conservativism.

There was almost no evidence of Bush support in Madison. But when the Kerry people came to town they brought signs that had a W with a "no" mark (slashed circle) over it, which was not only incredibly insensitive to the local culture but also entirely unnecessary.

Too bad it lays at the feet of that sterile, concrete catastrophe known as the Humanities Building.

Brendan: That digustingly ugly building is actually slated for demolition!

You've made my day. With any luck, the new building will allow the slightest bit of sunlight to peek through.

Ann: That horrid Kerry and crew seem to have been engaging in some Wolverine Terrorism...for all the good it did them!

Best news in weeks. If only we could say the same for every other brutalist monstrosity. Sorry to any brutalism fans out there, but if I could, I would personally take a wrecking ball to the whole lot. Or maybe some explosive charges. Or a good old fashioned tactical nuke.

Here's a post I did back in January about the plan to raze a lot of the campus eyesores. It's not because they are ugly, but because it's more expensive to do the needed renovations that to start over. Getting rid of the ugly is just a side benefit.
