Does this open the door to babies with designer-shaped skulls? Because that would be awesome. Why have a boring round-headed baby when it could have Lisa Simpson spikes? Or a cone?
The ancient Mayans used to do this, only they made the infant's forehead more flat by wrapping board against it. The whole thing reminds me of Chinese bound-feet, whether they know it or not.
Does making a baby wear a helmet lower or raise his self esteem?
Our pediatrician actually told us that those helmets are statistically useless. As in, the babies head is just as likely to even out on it's on, as with the helmet.
...and we're one step closer to making every kid wear a helmet his or her entire life.
It's only a matter of time before somebody opens a Baby ABATE chapter.http://www.abatemn.org/
Our boy had a slightly flat part on his head. We put him to bed with a cushion which held him on his side. This evened out the shape of his head. Why bother? Well, being a boy, we had to assume he'd be bald one day. A more-even head shape would be a good thing on a bald head.
Yes, it may be expensive. It is low-risk. If one would put their adolescent child through braces, then this certainly makes sense and is certainly less painful. It is not necessary for life, it may not even be necessary in that it may correct itself, but if given the choice between cost and invconvenience and a Dan Akroyd Conehead look-alike (and some of these cases are severely deformed), I'll go for the prosthesis.
I read this and all I could think of is those misbegotten parents who think their kid is perfect. They will move heaven and earth to force the kid into the perfection mold. At the same time they will look down on those poor people who don't do the same thing. Whatever happened to this whole thing of work with what you got? This whole "lifestyle" of inject it here or change the color or cut it off there I find sickening. I know people have reasons but we are not sketchbooks for designer bodies. The differences are what make people interesting. This whole fit a mold is part of what bothers me most about society now. You see a car and with few exceptions you cannot identify it because it looks like every other car out there. The same with protest clothing. They want their own style but it is exactly the same style as everyone else's style. Deal with what you are dealt and be happy.
